What to See & Do on Koh Samui
May 14, 2026 · 7 min read
Big Buddha, hidden waterfalls, island viewpoints and day trips to the Ang Thong marine park — the experiences worth leaving the pool for.
You came for the villa and the beach — but Koh Samui rewards the curious. Between slow mornings by the pool, a handful of experiences are genuinely worth the trip out.
Temples & culture
The golden Big Buddha (Wat Phra Yai) and the nearby Wat Plai Laem are the island’s most photographed landmarks, and both are an easy ride from the north coast. Go early to beat the heat and the tour groups.
Waterfalls & nature
Inland, Na Muang 1 and 2 are the island’s prettiest waterfalls, greenest after the rains. The Secret Buddha Garden and the Overlap Stone viewpoint reward a little more driving with far fewer people.
On the water
- Ang Thong National Marine Park — 42 islands, kayaking and snorkelling on a full-day boat trip
- Koh Phangan — a short ferry for quieter beaches (or the famous Full Moon Party)
- Koh Tao — world-class diving and snorkelling, best as an overnight
Markets & evenings
Time your week around the night markets: Fisherman’s Village Walking Street (Friday) and the Maenam and Lamai markets are the best for street food, crafts and people-watching.
